The 2017 vintage of "Cà del Merlo" is a blend of Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella, and other traditional grape varieties, Made in almost the exact same method of half fresh and half dried grapes, aged ripasso style just like the Valpolicella, however this is a single vineyard field blend of the 3 traditional grapes plus Cabernet Sauvignon and Franc, Nebbiolo, Croatina and for fun a little Sangiovese too. Crafted using the estate's signature meticulous approach. The wine undergoes a partial appassimento process, where a portion of the grapes are dried before fermentation, imparting richness and concentration. On the nose, it reveals enticing aromas of ripe cherries, dark plums, and blackberries, along with notes of dried herbs, licorice, and subtle spices like clove and cinnamon. Hints of leather, tobacco, and a touch of balsamic add complexity to the bouquet.
