Avinyó Petillant Penedès Spain 2023

Avinyó calls their Petillant a vi d’agulla. It is the Catalan term for a prickly wine, a wine that is bottled with a little natural effervescence that is retained from the winemaking process. It is very similar in style to Basque Txakolina. While the more famous basque wine is made with relatively neutral varietals this is a blend of Muscat de Frontignan and the local Cava varietals of Macabeu and Xarel-lo. It has delicate floral tones backed by cool citrus fruits and minerality. Light, refreshing and with just a slight bite. This is an amazing aperitif or an even better park pounder.
